Salsa Gumtape

社会への取り組み 社会への取り組み

"Salsa Gumtape" is a rock band formed through the initiative of musician Tetsu Kashiwa (the 5th "Uta no Onii-san" on NHK's "Okaasan to Issho"), featuring a mix of individuals with intellectual disabilities and non-disabled members from a welfare facility in Kanagawa Prefecture. The members with intellectual disabilities primarily play percussion instruments, including an original drum made by attaching adhesive tape to the mouth of a bucket, which inspired the band's name. Their energetic rock rhythms uplift audiences with their vibrant performances.

The band has garnered attention through various performances, including NHK's "Minna no Uta" (1999), the Fuji Rock Festival (2004), and collaborations with Kiyoshiro Imawano, such as "ONABE" (2003). They have also performed internationally, including in Sweden (1996). In October 2010, they gave live performances at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, and in the summer of 2011, they performed in areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake, supporting recovery efforts in the Tohoku region.

As employees of our subsidiary, Pole To Win, are also involved in the activities of "Salsa Gumtape" through their work at the welfare facility in Kanagawa, we will continue to support their future endeavors.
